Rick Ruby takes your questions #3

It appears to me that our country, let alone the rest of the world, ain't in the best
of shape right now. When do you think things will get better? -- Fed Up in Chicago

If you walk the same streets I do and see the same folks I do everyday, you find it hard to think things'll ever get better, but hey, you gotta have hope, right? Besides, when you've managed to live through the mess (we'll just leave it at that for now) I've been through, you start to wonder if anything, and I do mean anything can really lay you low. I've faced it all -- bullets, Nazis, jealous dames, jealous husbands, conniving singers, and more than a few years in the alleys myself (and I don't mean the swanky dives that My Man Godfrey hung out in) -- so I like to think of myself as something of a survivor. And, well, if a two-bit flunky like me can survive, I figure most anybody can.

MARK WHEATLEY COVERS RUBY FILES VOL. 2

The Ruby Files Vol. 1 cover art: Mark Wheatley
Mark Wheatley, who crafted the beautiful cover for The Ruby Files vol. 1 has signed on to contribute a cover for the upcoming The Ruby Files vol. 2.

After announcing the news, Airship 27 publisher, Ron Fortier said, “Mark's gorgeous cover on volume one has deservedly been nominated for the Pulp Factory Award for Best Pulp Cover of 2012.  So you can image how thrilled and honored we are at having him on board for this new book. He's one of the most admired artist in the field today.”

Ruby Files co-creator, Sean Taylor also commented. “When I heard Mark Wheatley was back on board for another cover, I couldn't believe it,” Taylor said. “I mean, let's be honest, the stories may have really driven the book home for the first collection but what really, really attracted readers to the book in the first place was Mark's cover. We couldn't ask for better. Period.”

And Ruby Files co-creator, Bobby Nash added, “I’m thrilled to have Mark return to The Ruby Files. The cover to vol. 1 is great and really helped push the sales of the book. It’s a beautiful piece of art.”

Said Wheatley of returning to The Ruby Files, “I'm looking forward to being inspired by more lurid, irresponsible, titillating, pulp-pounding action!”

The Ruby Files vol. 2 is coming soon from Airship 27 Productions with stories by Sean Taylor, Alan J. Porter, Ron Fortier, and Bobby Nash. Interior illustrations provided by Nick Poliwko under a cover by Mark Wheatley. Rob Davis returns as book designer.

Keep watching this space for more Ruby Files vol. 2 as soon as it becomes available.

2013 PULP ARK NOMINEES ANNOUNCED! Rick Ruby leads the pack again!

The 2013 Pulp Ark Award nominations were announced today and we're proud to announce that The Ruby Files (and its creators) was nominated for quite a few of the coveted awards -- 8 NOMINATIONS IN 6 CATEGORIES! The awards will be presented at the 2013 Pulp Ark convention in Springdale, Arkansas April 26-28, 2013.

The ballot for this year's awards was composed based on nominations called for beginning December 15, 2012 and ending January 15, 2013.  Only those who nominated in at least one category in that time period are allowed to vote. The original intent was to have voting begin January 15 and end February 15, 2013.  Due to an unforeseen number of ballots and a tremendous variety of nominations, the ballot was not completed until February 5th, 2013.  Therefore, all eligible voters have until March 1, 2013 to complete a ballot and email that to proseproductions@earthlink.net.

Winners will be announced on or after March 1, 2013 once all votes are compiled and winners are determined.  Awards will be given on April 27, 2013, at Pulp Ark 2013.

The most comprehensive Pulp award today, the Pulp Ark 2013 Ballot features over 40 publishers represented by nominated creators and works.
